HEPCA at the International conference of Climate change and Water resources

The International Conference of Climate change and Water resources was held in Suez Canal University during the 10th and 11th of July 2012. HEPCA participated this year in the conference as one of the key speakers with its latest research on climate change and thermal tolerance of coral reefs in the Red Sea. HEPCA research team headed by Professor Mahmoud Hanafy and Dr. Mohammed Ismail and MSc student Mohammed Yousf are working on the effect of climate change on coral reefs of the Red Sea. Working on the thermal tolerance of corals, the team is the first Egyptian team conducting research on climate change effects on zooxanthellae in Egypt. The conference board and attendees were amazed with the results and the approach in the research and also the change in the Egyptian mentality of research topics. The move for being ready for environmental problems from just reacting to them is new to the Egyptian scientific community. HEPCA funded the research as part of the Scholarship program currently also being funded by HEPCA in order to support Egyptian scientists in their Masters or PhD degrees, in issues related to conservation Biology. The research in coral thermal tolerance is part of HEPCAs future plans for the conservation of the Red Sea coral reef ecosystem. The oral seminar attracted local and international scientists to the topic with offers from other African countries (Sudan and Kenya) for HEPCA to conduct the same research on their
