WE LOVE EGYPT

This year Valentine’s Day was celebrated a bit differently in Hurghada than the previous ones. Instead of spending the day with only the loved ones, the local and foreign residents, tourists and visitors gathered together in front of Esplanada Mall to celebrate the “WE LOVE EGYPT” event and show the world that the Red Sea is safe and ready for tourists to come back. Since the end of January, when the protests in Egypt began, tourism in the Red Sea went down completely. The normally crowded streets and hotels of Hurghada and surrounding areas are now empty and more and more facilities are closing down due to a lack of income. Travel warnings to Egypt were given out from most countries, which caused a large number of cancellations and change of reservations. Simply the British market kept their flights to Egypt. On Valentine’s Day 2011 the tourism industry of Hurghada joined efforts to organise WE LOVE EGYPT and thank the tourists, who decided to visit the destination apart from all warnings that were given out. More than 1000 tourists and locals came to the event to show the world that the Red Sea is safe and has been safe contrary to all warnings. Four different bands were playing live on stage while the crowd was celebrating and waving Egyptian flags showing their love for the country that managed to achieve the impossible. We would like to say at this point: HEPCA is proud to be part of this revolutionary era that promises positive changes to our country. Even though this is just the beginning of freedom, we salute everyone, who took part in making this change in Egypt happen and hope that the future will lead to a safer, even-handed and well structured country.
