The black tears of the sea!

The leak of sunken ships or what they call the black tears of the sea!

As our planet face many threats recently, it's more important than ever to protect the sea, the home of majestic marine creatures. And one of the key factors that plays a role into the Red Sea wellbeing is stopping the oil leak out of the sunken ships.

Last July, HEPCA received a complaint with evidence that a wreck of a sunken passenger ship in Safaga spilled oil into the Red Sea and we realize that if we didn’t take instant action, there will be a significant impact on the marine life, the local environment of people's livelihoods, fishermen and potentially on the tourism industry.

Our mooring team headed for the shipwreck and succeeded in plugging the leaks temporarily, but these forgotten sunken ships can be time bombs ticking under the seawater! Experts estimate that a medium shipwreck could hold up to 2 million gallons of fuel, posing a threat to both wildlife and humans.

We can be part of the solution of this serious problem by:

Reporting shipwrecks leaks with photos and videos if possible and send to info@hepca.org or WhatsApp +201016006640
