SharkGUARDIAN of the Year 2012: Royal Evolution

The whole HEPCA team would like to congratulate its esteemed member Royal Evolution for becoming the SharkGUARDIAN of the Year 2012! Royal Evolution played an essential role in catching the four Yemeni fishing boats that were fishing and finning sharks in the Egyptian Red Sea in the summer of 2010. After spotting longline markers in the morning of the 7th of June 2010 the crew and guests on board recovered 11km of longlines and managed to release a variety of sharks, which were already hooked on to the lines, including silky, mako and tiger sharks; an action that requires a lot of courage, bravery and skills. The SharkGUARDIAN of the year is an annual award given out by Sharkproject International at the well-known fair “BOOT” in Düsseldorf, Germany. It is worldwide the only environmental-award given out for the protection of sharks. Within the last six years it is the second time that the SharkGUARDIAN Award is going to Egypt. In 2006 “The Arab Republic of Egypt” already became official SharkGUARDIAN for their decree of banning shark fishing in the Egyptian Red Sea. HEPCA feels honoured to have Yasser El Moafi, owner of Royal Evolution, as part of its board and would like to spread his message to the public: “On behalf the Royal Evolution's crew, we would like to thank you Mr. Gerhard & all the Shark Project team for all the effort made to protect the sharks, the marine environment and for raising the awareness on many dive destinations around the globe. The award today is an honour for us as we confirm & promise that we'll do our best effort to fight against any un-legal action in our dive destination. We wish you all the best.”
