When the Community Acts, the Sea Benefits: A Beach Cleanup in Safaga

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Red Sea Protected Areas, ORCA Dive Club Safaga, DUNE Red Sea, along with dedicated volunteers and the HEPCA team.

The day began with an environmental awareness session and open discussion, highlighting the main environmental challenges facing Safaga, particularly marine pollution, improper waste disposal, and the impact of human activities on coastal and marine ecosystems. Participants exchanged ideas and emphasized the importance of responsible behavior to protect beaches and the Red Sea’s fragile biodiversity.

Following the awareness session, participants took part in hands-on cleanup activities along the beach. El Samaka Public Beach was in clear need of care and attention, and through positive cooperation and shared responsibility, the collective effort resulted in a cleaner, safer beach for both the local community and marine life.

This initiative reflects the power of partnership and community engagement in environmental protection. Protecting the Red Sea is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration between government entities, civil society, the private sector, and the public.

HEPCA continues to work with partners across the Red Sea coast to promote environmental awareness, reduce marine pollution, and safeguard the Great Fringing Reef, ensuring that beaches remain clean, healthy, and resilient for future generations.
