FTI supports environmental initiative by HEPCA

The tour operator supports أُHEPCA the largest Egyptian conservation association which works for the preservation of the ecosystem and the protection of marine life in the Red Sea and on land by signing Code Red.

FTI is now cooperating with the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conversation Association (HEPCA) and continues with the signing of Code Red 2 to protect the Red Sea’s eco system for a sustainable and healthy environment for future generations.

For more than 25 years, HEPCA has been committed to protecting natural resources from degradation and has therefore initiated Code Red 1 & 2 projects which aims at setting environmental guidelines for all touristic entities to follow in order to protect the Red Sea.

Code Red 1 & 2 encourages all service providers, members, and staff to abide by the proper use of

the Red Sea’s mooring system and not to use anchors and wires to prevent any damage to the

fragile coral reefs.  It also encourages all service providers, members, and staff to abide by the local regulations regarding litter and waste disposal, it also prohibits harassment of the marine life in the wild and to respect international and local regulations regarding wild life encounters like  Chasing, touching, feeding, and harassing wild life, e.g. dolphins, dugongs, turtles, sharks, and birdlife in its natural habitat which disturbs its natural cycle of life and may cause death. Code Red also assures that all service providers, members, and staff shall not involve in selling, supporting or propagating any activity or excursion that involves animal captivity or cruelty.

Code Red 1 & 2 also assures that all our service providers, members, and staff are informed about oil pollution and toxic substances, such as fuel, TBT anti-fouling paints, and cleaning agents as poor maintenance, refuelling and washing vessels near coral reefs cause substantial damage to the marine environment, it is also abiding everyone to support and extend help whenever possible to scientific research and monitoring programs.

And the last point that was added this year was that all service providers members and staff are aware about the negative impacts about plastic on natural resources and they abide to the recent local regulations and policies regarding banning the single use plastic in the Red Sea governorate.

With its signature, FTI, the market leader in Egypt, will from now on only work with service providers who for example respect the international and regional regulations on sighting, contact and handling wild animals on excursions and comply with local regulations on waste disposal and water pollution.

“As the market leader in Egypt we take our responsibility seriously and are happy to work with our local partners to support protecting the Red Sea and its resources and preserve its beauty," said Dietmar Gunz, Group Managing Director at FTI. "And with around one million guests brought by the FTI GROUP to Egypt in the last fiscal year, we can really make a difference," Gunz continues.
