Egypt Independent – A Voice for Environmental Protection

Egypt Independent is an English language news service that was established as a website in 2009, by the privately-owned Al-Masry Al-Youm news organization. Since its inception just 5 years ago, Egypt Independent has proven to be a transparent news entity and an outspoken critic of government corruption and social injustice. Egypt Independent has also been one of the most vocal news outlets when it comes to exposing environmental crimes and the protection of Egypt's natural resources. This important ally in our struggle for environmental protection is now appealing for help. Due to financial loses and needed cut-backs, Egypt Independent's parent company Al-Masry Al-Youm is considering shutting down the English version news site. Media coverage is one of the primary ways by which HEPCA is able to exert pressure on corrupt institutions and to expose illegal activity. Our many media allies, such as Egypt Independent, have come to our assistance on numerous occasions and now they need our help.
