Biodiversity Day at COP27

Biodiversity day at COP27 was such a remarkable and effective day for the Red Sea and HEPCA, with many important events and a big announcement!

 

  • Hope for Coral Reefs Discussion

The event included a panel discussion including Susan Gardner (Head of Ecosystems Programme at UNEP) and Professor Mahmoud Hanafy (Scientific Advisor of HEPCA) moderated by Richard Vevers (The Ocean Agency). The event will be introduced by Inger Andersen (Executive Director of UNEP).

This event hosted by The Ocean Agency and UN Environment Programme in collaboration with the Global Fund for Coral Reefs will feature singer/songwriter and @unep  Goodwill Ambassador Ellie Goulding.

  • Red Sea Biodiversity Event at Civil Society Pavilion

Discussing the challenges, lessons learned and conservation best practices of natural marine endowments.

In a side event by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment & Mainstreaming Biodiversity in Egypt's Tourism Project; a UNDP Project , Prof Mahmoud Hanafy participated in the panel discussion on the Future of Coral Reefs and Sustainable Management, as the more they grow, the more they store carbon dioxide helping us combat climate change!
