A New Phase for Solid Waste Management System in Hurghada

Three Years ago, HEPCA started implementing its solid waste management system in Hurghada, and since then, we've been trying our best to develop the system to ensure it meets the demands of the community and accomplishes our goals. With the support of the different authorities and the support of the Hurghada's civil society, we were able to confront most of the challenges that we faced. And we were able to give an example of how a civil society organisation can intervene to solve a problem like waste management, a problem that most Egyptian cities struggle to solve. And now, HEPCA reached the second phase of the solid waste management system, by acquiring the management of the sanitary landfill of Hurghada. That allows for HEPCA to manage the complete system of solid waste in Hurghada, and allows HEPCA to solve many of the problems of the current system. To be able to start the second phase with the collaboration of the tourism industry, HEPCA held a meeting with the general managers of the hotels of Hurghada, to discus the possibilities and challenges of the next phase. The discussion was fruitful, and all the ideas that were raised will be studied by HEPCA to lay down the plan for the new phase. We would like to thank all the participants, and we consider you our partners in the management of the solid waste management system.
